| Bullion Basin |
January 22, 2006
At the end of our tour the day before, we discussed where to go. The overriding criterion was that we
go someplace with no trailbreaking. Bullion Basin it was...
Bullion was really really nice. We skinned up behind the hordes, and took a 1500 foot lap down something that
spat us out on the trail. The snow was creamy, consolidated-but-silky hero pow. Under bluebird skies. With
Rainier as background.
We skinned up a different aspect and dropped down into Cement Creek (I think). I was having a much better ski
day than the day before, and was having a blast. We skinned back up and skied a particularly appealing gully.
It started as a big bowl, then gradually tightened, and turned into a twisting streambed lower down. We reached
the bottom smiling.
We trudged back up on wearly legs and dropped down Three Way Peak (?) towards the car. Minor bushwhacking ensued
until we found the cat track again. We reached the car without any casualties, no thanks to the teenage snowboarders
spread across the cat track 200 yards from the car.
What a fantastic weekend!
